10 Best Restaurants in Whittlesey

Located just a few miles east of Peterborough, Whittlesey is a market town in the Fens with a variety of shops, pubs, and restaurants for visitors to enjoy.

There are many great places to eat in Whittlesey, whether you’re after a memorable night out or a light snack during the day.

If you’re in the area and are in need of inspiration for where to eat, these are some of the best restaurants in Whittlesey.

Sonargaon

One of the best Indian restaurants in Whittlesey, Sonargaon Tandori offers incredible authentic and delicious Indian food.

Using local produce and fresh herbs, Sonargaon provides all the favourite curries and other dishes, from sizzling baltis to spicy vindaloos.

While the interior is small with limited seating, this only helps to create a cosy atmosphere, and as it’s found right in the market square there’s no better location to eat in Whittlesey than here.

The Railway

Located (unsurprisingly) by the Whittlesey train station, The Railway is both a fantastic pub as well as a great Nepalese-run restaurant.

While they provide some of the usual Indian curries, the selection of Nepalese dishes is what makes The Railway stand out from the other places to eat in Whittlesey.

Try the Lasun Khukura Khurasani if you want to try something a little different – we highly recommend it!

Vesuvio

If you’re after tasty pizzas or pasta dishes, Vesuvio is arguably the best Italian restaurant in Whittlesey.

This family-run establishment has everything you could want from an Italian eatery, with all your favourite dishes and some great antipasti.

One option worth trying out is the Vesuvio 70, a large 70cm-long pizza that’s perfect for sharing.

The Straw Bear

Whittlesey has a range of fantastic pubs, and of these many provide great food in addition to their selection of drinks.

One of these is the Straw Bear, named after the iconic figure of the popular Whittlesey Straw Bear Festival.

On Sundays, you can visit for a lunchtime carvery with a choice of meats and all the trimmings you could want.

The Med

There are limited options in Whittlesey to get mediterranean food, but The Med (as the name suggests!) fills this particular gap in the market very well.

With a great selection of cocktails as well as some tasty food options – including kebabs and a great mezze platter – there’s plenty of choices here to have a fun evening.

Not Just Cafe

One of the more curious places to eat in Whittlesey is Not Just Cafe which, as the name suggests, is not just a cafe!

While during the day it’s a more standard cafe, serving hot drinks and a range of breakfast and traditional English meals like pie and chips, it also happens to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in Whittlesey.

While the menu might be limited, the food is reasonably-priced and one of the most well rated places to eat in Whittlesey, whether you’re crazing Chinese or English dishes.

Sunshine Cafe

Located in the heart of Whittlesey, with a view across to the historic market square, you can find one of the best cafes to get food in the town.

While it’s a cafe, they also provide some great meals, from pies and roast dinners to pasta and kebabs.

The Causeway Royal Fish Bar

There are many fantastic places to get fish and chips, but of these few compare to the The Causeway Royal Fish Bar.

Located on the pedestrianised High Causeway in the centre of Whittlesey, the Royal Fish Bar is one of the best options if you want to treat yourself to a classic chippy dinner, with kebabs, burgers and chicken available as well as fish.

One thing they do well is portion sizes – you won’t ever be left hungry after eating here!

The Letter B

Not only is the Letter B among the best pubs in Whittlesey, it also has some of the tastiest food around.

Having reopened in 2022 with a great makeover, it has a lot of offer with a range of delicious dishes, from big burgers to a particularly great 12 hour pull pork.

We recommend the big pit smoker sharer which includes a selection of their best meat dishes, along with chips, coleslaw, and onion rings. It’s a generous portion for two people, and could easily be shared between three!

Rainbow House

Heading slightly away from the centre of the town east down Eastrea Road you can find one of the best Chinese takeaways in Whittlesey, Rainbow House.

They do everything you could want from good Chinese, with an incredibly tasty salt and chilli chicken being one of the standout dishes.

Best of all, they’re an especially speedy takeaway. If you call ahead, you’re food is often ready by the time you arrive to collect.
